that he was wearing them well into the school years for night accidents.
Accidents (many of them) will happen. When kids aren't given the occasion to
continually sense the natural pain that comes from wet clothes, they
have no suspect to learn to make potty training a priority. Reconsider putting a
protective waterproof sheet nearby their mattress, but stay away from soaker
pads and pull-ups once you have made the shift (and the sooner, the better).

7. Give Your Child More Responsibilities nearby the House - The more
confidence your child feels, the more they will embrace learning any new skill
(including potty training). Look for tasks that your preschooler can be
responsible for and thank her for what she does. Intriguing your child in the
upkeep of your home is one of the best things you can do for him (see episode

Many early childhood preschool classrooms are set up in a very single way. Studying centers or corners are areas in the room that characterize a single component of the curriculum. There are many dissimilar types of Studying centers and to keep children curious these should be changed and even rotated periodically. Here are some ideas for Studying centers. If you only have space for 2 or 3 centers then just turn them colse to periodically. This will keep the children very curious in exploring new centers. These can even be created in the child's home with some creativity on the parents' part.

These extra Studying centers are prominent for so many developmental reasons as you will read below but the best part is that while free play time the children can feel independent and will have something fun to do. They will gravitate to an area of interest for them. Some kids love science while others may love the pretend play area and yet others may feel musically inclined on a given day. Another child may just want to curl up with a pillow and a favorite book. As teachers of preschoolers it is reassuring to know that the children are busy and safe while you tend to a sick child, feed a baby or do some critical paperwork.

Free play time is invaluable to children. It allows them free time of selection and independence. They can interact with their peers and vocalize and express themselves - say what they are thinking and feeling. They learn to compromise and negotiate and gain a respect for the ideas of others. They also take on roles of follower and leader. Socialization does not just come simply to children - they must practice it over and over and Studying centers are the best place to do just that!

Creating learning Centers for Preschoolers

Using all of these interest areas in your weekly or monthly them creates what is called a 'whole language' experience. On the preschool level it simply means integrating literacy into other areas of the curriculum, especially math, science, and communal studies. For example if your theme is "Apples' you can have something linked to apples in any of the centers. In Science angle you can have apple seeds glued to an index card and labeled or a basket with 4 dissimilar varieties of apples to compare; in math angle there can be more apple seeds to count or a basket of fresh apples that will be used for snack or a baking project after counting and making groups with first; in the Art town you can have red paint and apples cut in half to make star-print paintings or make apple prints with an apple shaped cookie cutter; in Reading angle you can read the story of Johnny Appleseed, Snow White or How Apple Trees Grow, etc...

Science Corner:

This area is ever-changing with the seasons. You can fill this Studying town with an unending range of things linked to science and nature. Books linked to weather, insects, seasons, flowers and plants, seeds, animals, rocks, age-appropriate experiments, etc... Are prominent in this center. Small packaging and jars to hold collections of items that the children may find surface should be available for things like rocks, leaves, pinecones, seeds, flowers and plants, some stuffed animals, ladybugs and other insects (real or rubber toys). Tools such as magnifying glasses, binoculars, eye-droppers, microscopes and kaleidoscopes, mirrors and magnets, as well as paper and pencils help children explore.

If you have space some real plants or live pets might be included such as a butterfly garden in springtime or a real lizard or hamster. As you turn themes you can turn items each month or week. Surprising the children is most fun in this area - for instance they can suddenly explore a new pet goldfish or a bowl filled with dirt and real worms or a Ziploc bag filled with ice cubes! This is the real curiosity corner!

Math Corner:

This angle could be combined with the Science angle or remain separate. Dress-up clothing can consist of anyone from commercially purchased costumes of community helpers to homemade items such as aprons, all types of hats, shoes and props. Children love to play with real life size props just as much as children's pretend ones so mixing it up will work great. Thrift market and second-hand clothing shops are filled with all kinds of remarkable items to add to your housekeeping corner. Ask for donations from parents as well as check out the local yard sales for bargains.

Art Center:

Art for Preschoolers allows for expression of artistic creativity. This town can be very colorful and bright, filled with art work, color posters and art supplies. Some items to consist of and rotate out are a range of paper (construction, tracing, newsprint, scraps, etc.), markers, children's scissors, crayons, water paint sets, glue, popsicle sticks, glitter, an Easel, art smocks (or old adult sized T-shirts) to protect clothing, water cups and paint brushes. You can find books at yard sales, eBay, thrift shops and library sales. All the time check the clearance town at your local bookstore too. Some other props to place in this area might be a rocking chair and some floor pillows and be sure that it is well-lit. A recording gismo and a flannel board are great tools for storytelling and re-telling. Asking children to re-tell a story is a great way to build literacy skills such as sequencing, memory and detail observation. You can bring props in from other corners to highlight a story you are reading. For example: use a mirror, a witch hat and an apple when reading 'Snow White.

So, as you see this is a great way to create a fun Studying environment for preschoolers. It can be ever-changing to reflect your themes, the seasons or holidays as well as daily play. Have fun creating your own curiosity corners!

When I was potty training my two young boys, I
discovered this method of potty training that made it
an enjoyable, yet very sufficient way to potty train
toddlers.

First, make sure your child is ready for potty
training, shows interest, wants "big kids pants" etc.
If they show no signs of readiness, it may be best to
let them mature a bit more.

Potty Training Infant

Make this a game, make it fun and you will not run into
stubborn opposition (after all it is the child's body).
Go out and buy or find around the house items you don't
normally let your child play with. Some examples might
be toys that can be used in water (3 or 4 things), like
little plastic pitchers, balls, tiny cups, whatever,
but make them Special. The only real rule to this game
is these special "potty" toys can only be played with
while the child is sitting on the potty! This is very
important; no breaking this one rule, or it won't work.

Creative Potty Training

Once the child is sitting on the potty fill a large
bowl or small pail with lukewarm or tepid water,
place the new "potty" toys in the bowl and set the bowl
of water in front of the child. On the floor if the
potty seat is low, or if it's a potty seat that sits on
top of the quarterly toilet, set the bowl of water on a
Tv tray or something that provides a step, in front of
the child. When the child places his/her hands in the
lukewarm water to play with the toys, if the child
needs to physically go, they nearly right away go potty
(it's approximately an instinctive type of bodily reaction),
then cheer, cheer, cheer! Give lots of praise, and if
you wish to give some type of a treat, go ahead.

Let them play as long as they want, as long as they sit
on the potty. When they are done playing, put the toys
away for next time. This is assuredly great because it
makes it fun for them so they cooperate, it totally
ends all power struggles, and also no more waiting and
waiting for them to go only to have them go potty as
soon as the diaper goes back on. They also feel good
because they have immediate success. Potty training
no. 2 was more difficult I found, that just came with
some time and patience and them studying in their own
space and way, relax, it will happen.

Do you want to know how I get this idea? It's kind of a
funny thing, my husband used to be in the troops and
when he was young in boot camp they used to all the time play
jokes on each other in the night by dipping the hand of
someone who was sleeping, into a pan of lukewarm water,
thus development the someone wet the bed. It just seemed like
a natural progression to use this trick for good use in
the potty training area and it worked great!

Adult party games can be a little goofier and a little more risqué so have some fun with the following two games we recommend for your party.

The first game for the adult party is a fun romp called 'Feeding Time'. Have all the women at the party sit in a row of chairs on the opposite side of the party area. They should each have a baby bottle filled with something to drink (you can use milk or alcohol for these adult babies) and each should have a bib.

Potty Training Infant

Place an equal amount of men on the opposite side of the adult party area. At your 'go' each of the men should run to their partner and get into her lap. The women will tie a bib about the man's neck and start feeding him from the bottle. The man can cling on to the woman but he's not aloud to touch the bottle with his hands. Once the bottle is empty the woman unties the bib and both run back to the men's starting place. The winning combine is the first one across the discontinue line.

Fun Adult Party Games

Our second advice is more of a fun pastime than an actual adult party game. 'Body painting' can be made a little competing if you give an award at the end of the painting session for the most artistic or most risqué body art. You'll need to spread out some newspapers or a floor cloth to keep paint from coloring the floor covering and you'll also need body paints or face crayons, brushes and some water.

Have the guests get into groups of three and arrange themselves so they can paint on each other's body. They can paint everywhere on the body as long as their painting partners are okay with it. At the end have every person admire each other's body art. This is absolutely a game reserved for those adult parties so keep the kids out of it!

Most parents wonder how their children with Down syndrome will learn to come to be toilet trained. Discuss with your child when they need to go to the toilet. "Are you doing a wee? Are you doing a poo?" Teach them through encouragement to tell you when they are emptying their bladders or exciting their bowels.

Nappy time is ideal for these discussions. "You've done a poo. Soon you will go to the toilet to wee and poo like a big boy/girl." Talk about it weeks or months before putting them on the toilet.

Let them watch adults or older siblings when they go to the toilet and see that it is a natural and regular occurrence.

To encourage success while they're on the toilet, they'll need to spend some time there at first. It's a good idea to keep a small basket of books in the bathroom so you can sit and read to them while they're sitting there. That first wee in the toilet is a big deal to parent and child!

Put them on the toilet at general "go" times, such as after waking up, after meals, before a bath and before bed.

After sufficient establishment (weeks or months depending on the child), they will start to show signs of toilet readiness. Tugging at nappies, sometimes with words, stamping of feet etc. Now is the time for training pants.

To begin with take them to the toilet every hour. Don't give them the selection by request them, just tell them, "It's toilet time," and take them by the hand. Sooner or later most two year olds begin to object when they realise they have to stop playing for a small while to go to the toilet. At this time, don't let them leave the toilet until they've sat down and "performed". They know what to do by now. Encourage them by saying things like "As soon as you've weed we can go and draw, play with your favourite toy etc."

Be certain and praise small successes. Accidents happen. Don't scold them. Talk to them and say "Whoops, you peed on the floor. We pee in the toilet don't we? Next time we'll make it to the toilet." You can also encourage them to tell you when they need to go. After accidents unblemished the usual toilet habit - sit on the toilet, paper, flush and wash hands. If they don't go through the habit they'll soon see the advantages of peeing in their pants.

Once your child is in pants during the day, don't go back to nappies except for sleep periods. It is too confusing to children to work out when they're in a nappy and when they're in pants. After an accident, it's back into pants. Sorry!

Of course there are times when pants aren't convenient. Huggies "pull ups" are great for going out when toilet training. Don't use them like a nappy. But they offer peace of mind in case children don't make it to the toilet in time.

To limit accidents while out:

take your child to the toilet before every outing
take your child to the toilet in the middle of shops
take a potty with you in the car for emergencies
take spare clothes with you.

The hourly habit must still be maintained while you're out.

Most children will wet the bed at night long after they're dry during the day. Keep them in nappies at night and take them to the toilet as soon as they wake up.
